Finn Goes Online
by CLT Creative Learning Technologies
Finn Goes Online is a wonderful story-based adventure that teaches kids about security, privacy and trust when they get their first phone. Finn, the alien fox, crash lands on Earth, befriends a family, and is given a phone to aid in his quest to find and repair the spaceship. As part of the story, Finn learns about passwords, privacy, and social media, and ends up in situations where the phone gets stolen, and where people online are not as they seem. The app feels like an adventure game with educational elements, and the engaging story makes you want to play to the end. The graphics and animation are polished, and the mini-games (hidden object, password building, and quizzes) are well done. It’s a light-hearted adventure, despite the serious subject, and well worth a look.
Sign Me a Sentence
by GraceSigns
Sign Me a Sentence teaches over seventy common and useful phrases in American Sign Language. These include “How are you?,” “Help me,” “I like movies,” and many more. Each phrase has a short video and narration (usually a few seconds) so it is easy to see and repeat over and over again in order to learn the sentences. There is also a quiz game where a video is played and you guess the sentence. The app design is simple, but clean and effective, and Sign Me a Sentence is a great introduction to sign language.
