Math 8: Times Tables with Leon
by L&J
Math 8 is a multiplication quiz game that uses voice recognition. Leon, a space alien, talks directly to the child and quizzes them on their times tables, getting them to say their answers rather than type them. There are slow and fast modes, the first giving kids a chance to think about their answer, and the second requiring to answer quickly. There’s also a simple game involving navigating an alien city and finding multiples of a number. The voice recognition works pretty well, but you can turn it off and use keyboard input if needed.

by Petro Shmigelskyi
Cardinal Land is a puzzle game with . The puzzles themselves are not the traditional jigsaw, but non-standard shapes that must be slid and rotated into place to create origami style images of animals. The game is divided into continents and contains up to 12 puzzles of animals indigenous to each continent. Each puzzle also comes with facts about the animal, to give it some educational value. The puzzles are fun, and somewhat peaceful. It’s not a new app, but it holds up very well. Free as of this writing.

Making games is a good way to motivate learning to code, and since this game is built in Scratch, kids can play the game in a web browser, see the code behind it, and even play around with the code and create their own version. ( https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/384381919 )
