Studio Island: Song Creator
Studio Island is a music creation and exploration app with great graphics and sound. Kids can easily create music by adding cartoon characters to a grid, representing different tracks and samples, who will then play out their song. To customize the song further, they can record their voice, tap out a melody on the included piano keyboard, add sound effects, or even scratch a record. There are also areas devoted to different types of instruments that kids can tap their way through, often with interesting facts, or amusing sounds attached. A good app for the musically inclined child.
Math 8: Talk math with Leon!
Math 8 is a quiz app focussed on a wide variety of math topics including addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, and more. The app includes voice recognition, so when kids are asked question by the animated alien they can speak their answers, resulting in a more natural interaction. Math 8 includes 48+ math topics, plus simple games, and also includes the ability to create your own questions and answers. Several topics are free to try, but the full app requires a monthly or yearly subscription.
Google Play Pass: Enjoy apps and games without ads or in-app purchases
Both Apple and Google have delivered app subscription services, similarly to music subscription services, where you have access to a library of apps for a monthly fee. Notably, the Google service includes apps and games for kids, such as some of the Toca Boca apps, whereas Apple’s service is strictly games, although it is currently only available in the United States.
