EASY peasy: Spelling for Kids
by wonderkind GmbH
Easy Peasy Spelling is a different kind of spelling app. A good quality synthetic voice slowly reads a sentence while the child writes it down on paper. The child then indicates which words they misspelled, and they can practice those words again. There’s an honour system in place here since the app doesn’t actually check the sentence the child wrote on paper, but physically writing words is an effective way to learn spelling. As an incentive, using the app gives kids game tokens that they can use to play four simple arcade style games. There are many existing sentence packs based on grade level, or you can add your own. However, the app requires the purchase of gems to get additional packs, even if you just want to add your own sentences, or you can pay a flat fee to get everything.

Parents’ Ultimate Guide to Smart Devices
“This guide tells you all about smart devices — what they are, what they can do for you and your family, how to use them as safely as possible , and how to protect your family’s privacy in a world increasingly powered by data.”
A useful guide from Common Sense Media. I do like how they don’t gloss over the privacy implications of smart speakers.
