MWA Workshop: Developers In Action

Coffee shops can be amazing places. During a lively conversation between myself, Ush, and Ahmed at our local grind, we solidified the idea of hosting a Workshop. On December 2nd, a group of 50 app developers will gather at Creativity Inc. in San Carlos (CA) to hash out what’s next in Apps for Kids. Here is the agenda so you can see what we’re up to…

Description: This is a working session, a forum for rolling up our sleeves and forming solutions for pain points in the industry. We are seeking nothing less than great ideas, fruitful partnerships, and promising opportunities – all within a high energy, collaborative, and casual setting.

Attendees: Independent mobile app developers from the Moms With Apps community, plus select individuals who have an interest in where the “apps for kids” industry is headed.

Agenda

1:00pm – Introductions and Ice Breaker – Lorraine, Ush, and Ahmed

2:00pm – Teams

Team 1 – The Perfect App Launch

What are the elements involved in launching an app to ensure Top Chart Momentum?

Team 2 – Cross-Platform Strategy

How should independent developers assess iOS, Android, Nook Color, and the various “kids educational” SDKs sprouting up?

Team 3 – Monitization Models

What is the ideal pricing strategy for a kids’ app? Premium, freemium, IAP, subscription, etc.

Team 4 – Branding and Marketing

How can you extend your brand beyond the app? Connecting with your customer, merchandizing, tangible goods and services, social media presence, etc.

3:00 – Team Presentations

4:00 – Indie App Consolidation – Open discussion on forming more impactful development teams.

5:00 – Head out for dinner at a local restaurant

I’ll keep this post updated as we add details (like Elf Hats) to the event. For now, the tweeting can commence with #MWAworkshop. Any questions about the event can be directed to Lorraine at lorraineakemann@gmail.com.

  1. @Lesley – I hope to see you, if not then that at the next meetup!

@Katheline – we will do our best to document the event and provide social media updates for monitoring the conversation. If the workshop is a success, then hopefully we’ll get some help to implement live streaming options down the line.
