Truth and Tales is a storybook and activity app for young elementary school age kids. There are currently three fully animated and interactive stories which are also available as audiobooks, plus one additional audiobook. The stories are fantastical tales about lions, dragons, princes and princesses, and ocean journeys, with an emphasis on teaching concepts such as empathy and conflict resolution. The stories have narration with word highlighting, and the option to read without narration. The app also includes a colouring book with pictures from the stories, and a game where kids do yoga-like poses mimicking animals. The art, animation, sound and narration are well-done with some clever interactions included, such as roaring like a lion into the microphone, or customizing the look of the main character, and the yoga game is a fun addition to the storybooks. Truth and Tales is offering a three-month free trial for a limited time.
Learn Letters & Words for Kids

Learn Letters & Words is a colourful and polished app for practicing letters. Kids select cards which dictate the letters, turn the letters into simple puzzles, and associate the letters with words for both upper and lowercase letters. Other cards bring in trains carrying jumbled up letters that kids fit into words, and are then shown an image of the word. Finally, the soundboard lets kids touch and hear letter sound to their hearts content (I know my own child liked to do this when he was younger). Learn Letters & Words is not complex, but it shows a lot of polish and care, and does a good job of letting kids play with letters and words. It can be downloaded for free, with an in-app purchase to unlock all content.
