We’re back from summer break and we have two great apps to share with you. Bookful caters to and encourages readers with a library of hundreds of kids books which can even be viewed in AR. Math Makers takes the genius of Slice Fractions and applies it to general math concepts in a fun physics based game.
Bookful: Kids’ Books & Games
by Inception VR
Bookful includes a huge library of books in a single app for kids to read at home or on the go, with new titles being added regularly. Each book is narrated and animated in 3D so that illustrations jump off of the page, and kids can view it on their screen, or in augmented reality. Kids can also record themselves reading the book, or simply read it silently. There’s an extensive selection of books, from early readers to stories about animals, greek myths, history, science, friendship and more. Many of the titles are from existing publishers like DK and Penguin Random House and include favourite characters like Thomas the Tank Engine, Transformers and even Peppa Pig. Bookful also includes activities and games. Kids can colour a character from a book and see it brought to life, spell words, or play games like mini-golf or slingshot. Needless to say, this app is well worth a look for little avid readers. Bookful offers a free trial, with a monthly or yearly subscription, and is offered free to AT&T subscribers in the United States.
Math Makers
by Ululab inc.
From the creators of Slice Fractions, Math Makers teaches math concepts in an intuitive way. Rather than quizzing kids on math equations, Math Makers builds understanding of math concepts through fun physics-based puzzles. Kids will be slicing shapes into fractional pieces, multiplying blocks in machines, balancing ice and fire equations, and performing all sorts of fun interactions like popping balloons blocking a path or swinging blocks with really stretchy cartoon snails. Along they way, kids collect pets and hats to dress up their characters. Math Makers is one of the most fun math games I’ve seen and definitely worth a look. It offers a free trial with a monthly or yearly subscription (currently 50% off as more content is being added).
Managing Subscriptions
Many apps for kids are moving to a subscription model. This means you get more content and more frequent updates at a monthly or yearly price. You can view your subscriptions on an iPhone or iPad by going to the App Store and tapping on your account icon in the upper right corner. From there you can go to your subscriptions and easily manage which ones to cancel or reactivate.
