EPIC Adventures – Kids Stories
by Through the Door Ltd.
Epic Adventures is a storybook app about two young brothers finding a magical door in their room that leads to an unusual adventure. The story is attractively laid out with beautiful art and ambient sounds, but lacks narration. It is also longer that most book apps with six reasonably long chapters. Each chapter has a real-world craft activity suggested with it, and these can be found on the developer’s website. The adventure takes place inside a hippo with all the strangeness that implies, so you may want to preview it first to see if it is suitable.
Sing & Play: Wheels on the bus
by Edoki Academy
Sing & Play is Edoki Acedemy’s high quality spin on the classic Wheels on the Bus song. Kids can sing along with the animated song, or they can play an interactive version that stops the song at certain points so kids can perform the actions in the song by tapping on the screen. Sing & Play sets itself apart by letting kids actually drive the bus through 20 different levels, requiring them to navigate a simple and not too difficult course and obey traffic lights, pick up kids, etc. There’s also a play mode where kids move a bus and pick up passengers as they wish. Finally, there’s a garage and sticker collection bought with coins collected while playing the driving levels.
Chika’s Test
A 12-year-old came up with a clever and easy way to determine if a given number is divisible by 7, which is brilliant and seriously impressive. Chika subsequently won a TruLittle Hero award.
