Happy App Friday

It’s a lighthearted week at App Friday. First, drive a walnut shell with wheels in a fun, not too difficult, Nutty Race with “Maya the Bee”. Then keep your reflexes sharp when where’s Waldo meets whack-a-mole in “Halloween – Where is My Hat?”. Finally, rats pretend to be humans by learning to drive special vehicles (insert joke about being in a rat race here).

Maya the Bee: The Nutty Race
by Midnight Pigeon

The Nutty Race features Maya the Bee (from books and television) in a kart race with her friends. There are three race tracks suitable scaled for bugs with giant mushrooms and blades of grass, and eight cartoon characters to choose from. There are obstacles to avoid, and power ups to collect and use just as in other kart racing games, but toned down for a younger audience, so the obstacles aren’t too bad, and the kart corrects its steering to a degree to avoid running off the track too much. Graphics, sound and animations are all well-done.

Halloween – Where Is My Hat?
by Comomola Studios

In “Where is My Hat?” characters pop on and off the screen whack-a-mole style while you search for the one wearing a fun Halloween costume. It starts simply with just a few characters and simple costumes, but the challenge gradually ramps up over many different levels to the point where you are trying to find combinations of items and avoiding tapping on others. Better still, there is a two-player mode on a single device where kids (or parents) can play together. Comomola makes smooth, polished apps, and this is no exception.

Scientists have trained rats to drive tiny cars

A lot of these types of stories are exaggerations, but not here. Rats really can drive specially designed vehicles, although judging by the video they could use braking assist.
