When we hear the phrase “women in tech”, it is natural to make associations with prominent figures like Sheryl Sandberg or Marissa Mayer. But this weekend at the AT&T Mobile App Hackathon for Women in Tech, my perceptions of the phrase were deepened and diversified. While visiting teams, I heard technology solutions to make a difference in my daily life. Ideas for improving our connections, identifying safe transportation routes, and encouraging green living were being built by talented women right before my eyes. Usually at these events I hear a broad mix of ideas with only a few that stand out. But in this group all ideas were relevant enough to download to my hip pocket. I asked their permission to share photos, so that you too can imagine a wider world of Women in Tech.
The winning team of the AT&T Mobile App Hackathon will gain entry to the WITI Summit, taking place in Santa Clara this Sunday through Tuesday, June 2nd – 4th. If you are in town, come join us. A panel of women app developers will be speaking on Tuesday morning. #WITISummit
