Welcome to App Friday, our weekly link exchange of family-friendly apps. Today we have three developers with a variety of educational content. Interactive word recognition, math-fact blasting, and super-smart pufferfish are just a fraction of the sum total. Love to Read, by Pirate Trio, FREE for App Friday. There are plenty of word categories to choose from in this app. Once a category is chosen, you can choose an image to do the word practice. Shake the device to scramble the letters, and put them back in place to spell the word. Then, read the word in a contextual sentence with highlighted narration. Another professional app from Pirate Trio. If you are curious about other titles, they have set Shapes & Puzzles and Love to Count at a special price of $1.99 for App Friday.
Multiplication: Invasion of the Moon Monkeys, $.99 for App Friday. There is a virtual joystick on the left, and a “fire” button on the right. For children who are learning the tables, this could be a fun quiz activity to get them thinking on their feet. Shoot the right answer, and the bad monkeys go away (or something like that). The gearshift at the bottom lets you adjust settings after each session. Besides Moon Monkeys, EduGame has been creating apps for awhile, and have also set Bumbles Jumble (a toddler puzzle game) to FREE, ensuring plenty of action this App Friday (Thanks James!).
Murky Reef: 1st – 2nd Grade Reading, Science and Math, $1.99 this App Friday. This app touches upon a comprehensive curriculum selection for learning activities at the elementary school levels. Answer the questions right, and the puffer fish puffs up to defend you from the Gray Reef Shark (the shark is a special guest on our banner this week, be sure to check it out!) This entire app is themed on the coral reef, so in addition to words and numbers, you also get to learn about creatures in the coral reef. In total there are 22 activity sets, in addition to performance reports to summarize correct answers. The FREE/LITE version of Murky Reef is full-featured as well, and includes six of the activities found in the full version.
