App Friday: Collaboration That Works

Moms With Apps is a network of *independent* developers – meaning everyone has their own ideas. However, they also share common goals. We all want interesting digital content, healthy business models, and family-friendly marketing. So when companies like Operatio Apps, or Brain Parade, or Learning Touch launch collaborative initiatives for privacy leadership, autism awareness, and new app launches – the benefits extend beyond the individual to the entire community. Thanks Tore, Jim and Maggie for demonstrating such awesome grassroots leadership this week. Happy App Friday!

Featured Apps (Click the image to read the descriptions in iTunes. Promotional pricing lasts until 8pm US PST Friday, unless extended by the developer.)

Goodnight Safari for iPad, FREE for App Friday. I noticed this title straight away, because it received some Apple love when it first launched. Then, I met the Libby the developer, in person, at one of our meet ups. Her illustrations are remarkable and cozy, the kind you could use to decorate a child’s bedroom. Enjoy the free gift, I believe she’s extending it through the weekend.

Flori’s Birthday, FREE for App Friday. What does it take to make a cake? The app walks you through the steps with a friendly giraffe and her friends. We bake for every birthday in our family, so ‘baking’ was a fun to witness through the iPad. If you like Flori in Birthday mode, they have another app starring Flori as well: Flori’s Adventure.

The Games of Rabbit, FREE for App Friday. This screenshot shows when my daughter found the 4th of 5 differences in “spot the difference” mode. The app also has puzzles and matching. I thought the app was lovely and easy to navigate. It plays in French or English.

The Lorax, $.99 for App Friday. Oceanhouse Media is celebrating this week for Dr. Seuss’s birthday. This title, in addition to many others, are specially priced to acknowledge Read Across America. They also set Lorax Garden to FREE through March 8th.

iLearn Solar System for iPad and iPhone, $.99 for App Friday. Astronaut Ashley and her quirky martian friend help you navigate the solar system with either “explore” or “quiz” mode. When you get the answer right, you earn stickers. Thanks to the developer for including privacy disclosures in her iTunes App description, because now I know what features are (and are not) included in the app. Nikita has also listed another app, Guess This Animal, FREE for App Friday.
